A BIG ouchy!

This is a picture of a little girl who had a very hard weekend. I'm not sure if her guardian angel took the Labor Day weekend off, but Katelyn is now covered in bandages.

The bloody battle started early on Saturday as Katelyn was walking down the stairs. Since she is just now getting comfortable going up and down, we still have the gate attached. I don't like her going up when I'm not around so we keep it shut most of the time. Since I was right across the room, I figured it wouldn't hurt if she had some practice. Everything was going great until she decided to grab the gate where it closes. The gate swung open crushing her finger in the process. Katelyn yelled out in pain and I rushed to close the gate so she could get free. Before I could get to the gate, Katelyn ripped her finger from the gate's grasp leaving most of the skin behind. Watching her finger twist in directions I didn't think possible, I was convinced it was broken. However, after a quick strategic clean up it appeared everything was still in tact and a few bandages later she was running around all smiles again.

Sunday evening felt absolutely amazing outside. This is the first break from the heat we've had in months. I thought it would be really nice to go out for a walk and enjoy the beautiful weather. We took Katelyn to the park and let her slide until the sun went down. After loading Katelyn back up in her Step2 push car, we were on our way back home. A block from the house, Katelyn decided she no longer wanted to sit. Trying to keep her seated, I sped up... pushing the car faster and faster. I never thought Katelyn would jump from the car, but she did. Landing hard, Katelyn earned her second battle wound. Another bandage now covers her skinned knee. Concrete-1, Katelyn-0

Monday morning was yet another beautiful day. Daddy was outside working on the craft project we started many, many months ago. Katelyn wanted to see what was going on outside so I decided to let her free from the cage house. She ran straight to the slide. Up and down, around, and over. Things were going as usual... just a typical play time in the back yard. Well... that was until she tripped over her feet and went face first into one of the brick columns at the corner of our porch. This fall scared me more than anything because I watched her bounce off and fall to the ground. Before actually seeing her face I thought she had hit her head...hard! Sweeping her up into my arms I ran inside the house to clean up the blood and determine the "state of emergency". Assuming the worst, I was already making a list in my head of all the things I should grab before heading the hospital. Yeah, I'm a "list" person. The screams started to dim as the cold wash cloth dabbed softly against her skin. Sitting in front of the mirror, Katelyn gazed at her blood soaked nose. I'm fairly certain she fractured it, but having had several broken noses of my own I know the drill. We covered her face in more bandages and she was ready to go back outside. Katelyn is one tough cookie!

Hopefully her guardian is back on duty and the box of Bandaids can take a break.

  1. Oh no. Poor poor girl. I can't imagine how that all must have scared you both!

  2. I really hate watching her get hurt. I know it is going to happen but I still want to guard her as much as possible. Luckily, she has a high tolerance to pain because the tears break my heart.
