Perfect 4th of July Pictures!

I definitely don't consider myself a lucky person when it comes to winning contests. Every hour I see another opportunity pop up on Twitter. Usually I just pass it over and don't bother signing up because I'm fairly confident I won't win anything. However, there was a contest for a gift certificate at a place called My Baby Clothes Boutique that I just couldn't pass up. Even if I didn't win, there was no harm in giving it a try. So, I entered my email address, followed a site on Facebook and submitted a few lines of my favorite products from the boutique on a blog. Two days later I receive an email, "You've won". OMG, how EXCITING!!!! Immediately I rushed over to the boutique to complete my order and within a week, two adorable dresses for Katelyn arrived at my doorstep. I'm sure by now you've noticed that I have a slight obsession with cupcakes so I HAD to order the beautiful 4th of July cupcake dress. With the upcoming holiday, I thought we should take the opportunity to get a few really nice pictures of Katelyn in her dress.

B and I took off driving around town to look for the perfect location. We spent over a hour driving in circles through bare fields and hill country roads. Our city vehicle didn't do so well on those gravel roads. Ouch! Unfortunately, we weren't having any luck so we turned around and went in the other direction towards the small city "downtown" area. A few back road turns and we were sitting on a gold mine -- the PERFECT picture location! Katelyn really didn't want to cooperate. Telling an almost 2 year old to "sit still" just doesn't work. She ran from one building to the next. It was impossible to get any good shots because she was a ball of energy and the camera wasn't keeping up (or maybe it was me that couldn't keep up). B and I went back and forth between playing "peek-a-boo" to taking a position behind the lens. After thirty minutes or so, the heat was starting to slow the princess down. Time for some good shots!

After taking these shots we went to search for another location. We found this cool red barn and decided to stop. The sun was going down fast but we wanted to try it out anyways. I was laying on the ground snapping away when I noticed a burning sensation on my arm. Stupid me... I was right on top of a red ant pile. Quickly, I jumped up and started wiping the ants away. I could see about 10 swollen bumps on the back of my arm but fortunately, Katelyn wasn't stung. At that point, we decided to call it a night. We'll try the barn again some other day.
