One foot in front of the other
I know I haven't really talked about my running progress lately so I wanted to do a little update. Things are going very well. My knee pain is completely gone *knocks on wood. I'm trying to be very careful and use good form to make sure I don't injure myself again. Yesterday I did my longest distance -- 7 miles! I know, I can't quite believe it myself. I had to take things very slow because it was 95 degrees when I started, but I finished. The plan? Well, I'm training to run a half marathon in December. Most people would say that I'm crazy but this is something I'm looking forward to. As long as I come in under 3 hours, I will be happy. Actually, I should say as long as I finish I will be happy but I really would like to do it as quickly as possible. My ultimate goal is to finish under 2 hours, 30 minutes... but we'll see. Training in the heat is a lot harder than I thought it would be. My Nathan Speed water belt helps quite a bit but my poor feet sweat so much it is hard to keep the blisters from popping up. New socks are on order so hopefully that problem will be solved soon! For the past three or four weeks I've been trying to increase my mileage -- 1 mile per week. However, I think I'm going to slow down for a bit. Seven miles seems like a good place to pause and work on pace. As soon as I get my seven mile time where I want it, I will start moving towards the 13 again. Summer just started but I'm really looking forward to those cooler temps already. Hottest summer ever and I'm trying to run 13.1 miles. Just my luck...
